⚡ Update Checklist
- Create backup
- Read changelog
- Update: Plugins → Theme → WordPress Core
Why Updates Matter
Updates close security holes, fix bugs, and bring new features. An outdated WordPress installation is a security risk.
Before Updating
- Create backup – Save files AND database
- Read changelog – What's changing? Any known issues?
- Use staging – If possible, test on a copy first
Update Order
1
First: Update Plugins
Plugins are most prone to conflicts. Update them individually and test after each.
2
Then: Update Theme
Using a child theme? Then updating is safe. Without child theme, your customizations will be lost!
3
Last: WordPress Core
Major updates (e.g., 6.3 → 6.4) – wait a few weeks until plugins are compatible.
After Updating
- Test website completely in frontend
- Check important features (contact form, checkout, etc.)
- Clear cache
- Test mobile version
